Ballarat Christian College is an independent, co-educational primary(years prep to 5) Middle school (years 6 to 9) and secondary(year 10 to 12) day school located in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. It is a high end college with low fee levels. In the evangelical Protestant tradition, catering for students in Years Preparatory (Prep) to 12.
Ballarat Christian College, provides education for children in a Christian environment. The College motto is ‘Serve one another in love’ (Galatians 5:13) [1] [2]
Year 9 has a "Creek Program," and students participate in overseas trips. 11 students, teachers and supporters travelled to Jordan and Israel for two weeks and visited the scenes of biblical events they had been studying at school. Students at the college in Years 10 to 12 complete the Certificate III in Christian studies, which includes Bible study, apologetics, theology and discipleship. The tours aimed to give students the chance to examine the geographical and archaeological evidence from the Bible for themselves. The group began in Bethlehem, and travelled the length of Israel before finishing with an overnight stay at Petra in Jordan.[3]
In 1985, 22 students began their primary education at Carmel Christian Community School in the Bethel Hall of Carmel Welsh Presbyterian Church in Albert St, Sebastopol under Principal Winston Broad. During 1991 the school changed its name to Sebastopol Christian Community School in order to reflect the wider church support base for the school. In 1999, another 22 students began their secondary education at Ballarat Christian College in Yarrowee St Sebastopol under Principal Peter NcNamara. In 1999, Ballarat Christian College, located in Yarrowee St, Sebastopol began with an enrolment of twenty two students in Years 7 and 8, under Principal Peter McNamara. The school was located in the former Seventh Day Adventist school buildings about a kilometre from the primary school site. In 2006, Ballarat Christian School (as the Sebastopol Christian Community School was now known) and Ballarat Christian College amalgamated and began the process of moving to one site.[4]
